When Talisman Energy Norway AS (TENAS) upgraded its management system, TENAS Management System (TMS), Mintra was chosen to develop an e-learning course to ensure that all of Talisman Norway’s employees understand the functionality of the new system. Employees gain an understanding of policies, guidelines, and principles through case studies and by solving relevant exercises. After completing the course, users will also be able to find/maintain documents relevant to their areas of responsibility.

PGS says that it is continuing to put great effort into hiring talented and skilled staff; both new graduates and experienced professionals. The company also says that, of equal importance to attracting the right talent, is making sure its new recruits settle in and perform to their best as quickly as possible. PGS recognizes that sufficient training will give new employees a good start, and help them settle into their new role, but extensive training is also important in order to give new employees a personal feeling of being competent and comfortable with the work they are doing. PGS considers this to be both a performance and safety issue.

OLF’s Industry Requirements for Work on Hydrocarbon-Bearing Equipment - Handbooks Print E-mail

The Norwegian Oil Industry Association (OLF) aims to reduce the number of gas leaks in the petroleum industry.  One of their most important initiatives is to enhance the competence of everyone who operates equipment on hydrocarbon-bearing facilities on the Norwegian Shelf.  OLF has set competence requirements for flange work, valve technology, fittings and process safety.


OLF’s guidelines will be developed for each competence area.  So far, two guidelines have been launched.

  • Guideline 118 – Guide to flange work
  • Guideline 119 – Guide to valve technology

Information from OLF’s Industry Requirements Project Print E-mail

In the effort to reduce the number of gas leaks in the petroleum sector, the industry has implemented new training requirements for personnel working directly with hydrocarbon-bearing equipment. Certification and recertification must be completed by the end of 2010.


OLF’s Gas Leak Project aims to reduce the number of gas leaks on the Norwegian shelf.  One of the most important project initiatives is to boost the competence of personnel working on hydrocarbon-bearing equipment on the Norwegian shelf.  In conjunction with this project, new requirements have been set for certification and recertification for the entire industry, based on curricula developed by the Gas Leak Project.

Learning materials for flange work and valve technology are now ready for use.

We are embarking on an exciting year in many ways.  The implementation of Integrated Operations, as well as internationalization and the merger with Hydro are examples of big changes for Statoil, which will have consequences both for individual employees and for Statoil as a whole. Preparing for training through good competency development initiatives will be important for realizing our ambitions and goals.  In this article I will look closer at Integrated Operations and the competency initiatives we have introduced to support the implementation.

Statoil/Hydro/Shell - Flange and Valve Technique Print E-mail

To avoid gas leakages, is important that personnel who join flanges on pressurised pipes receive good training.  Using a computer and a video projector, the course instructor can show models and animations that easily visualise the learning material.  Realistic 3-D models of ball valves, for example, provide course participants with insight into their function and operation in a totally different way than from looking at the valve from the outside.

ConocoPhillips Offshore Course - OLF 080 Print E-mail

ConocoPhillips operates the Ekofisk field on the Norwegian continental shelf.  They have requirements for job-specific HSE training before heading out to Ekofisk.  The e-learning courses were developed by Mintra and are offered on ConocoPhillips Trainingportal.
